Hello Gorgeous

I found these prints on etsy the other day. They are super fun and would look so great in a child's room or any other room for that matter. They're gouache paintings by Matte Stephens. They have a mid-century Alexander Girard feeling that I love. Sometimes I want to have a baby just so I can fill their room full of amazing things like this. Thank god I'm not that manic... but close. I love the two faced red headed girl. It's very smile now, cry later.

The Jane

This year I celebrated my birthday at The Jane Hotel in the west village. It has quickly become one of my favorite spots in NYC. The decor is amazing! It's kind of like if Ms. Havisham and The Darjeeling Limited had a baby and it just happened to be a hotel. The bar has this exotic mix of patterns and textures from the velvet sofas and fringe to a dilapidated disco ball. And let's not forget the taxidermy... there's stuffed monkeys wearing fez in the bar and a ram on top of the Lounge's fireplace mantel. Trust me... It's completely cool. The decor inspired me to turn up the "ugly" in my own design. Beautiful things are so much more interesting if they are just a little bit ugly. Ugly is the new black. It should be a staple of good design.

It all started with a chandelier...

Last year I vacationed in Key West and like most turistas, Greg and I visited Ernest Hemingway's home. While touring the rooms I came across this little unlit chandelier... and fell in love. It was tarnished and a little weird and totally perfect at the same time.
I am constantly obsessing over something. Usually it's textiles (I love me some fabric), furniture, handbags or the perfect color of brown to dye my hair (my hairdresser is always asking me "now how is that different from the color you already have?" but I can see the difference). I completely obsessed over this chandelier and still do. So rather than keeping my obsessions to myself I thought I would share. This is my first post all about the perfect chandelier.
